IB Middle Years Programme Information

TMS-M is an authorized International Baccalaureate World School, offering the Middle Years Programme (MYP). TMS-M was awarded the National Blue Ribbon in 2017 and the National School of Character in 2022. All 8th grade students complete the International Baccalaureate Community “Passion” Project, which enables students to serve the community and share their talents with others.

Project and problem-based interdisciplinary learning experiences are at the heart of the MYP.

  • Each unit is based on the Alabama and Common Core Standards and provides students with a rich, conceptual, global exploration of the subject matter.
  • Spanish language instruction is taught to all students.
  • Technology and 21st-century skills instruction are embedded into the curriculum.
  • Service is a primary component of the curriculum.
  • School-wide enrichment is provided through in-school clubs, interdisciplinary projects, and year-round fine arts instruction.
  • TMS-M faculty, staff, and students belong to one of five Houses, named after the Spanish words for five of the IB Learner Profile traits. Houses meet monthly for advisory and competitions.

We teach our students to inquire about their world, to create new ideas, and to serve the community. Academic achievement is a priority, and critical thinking is the avenue to reach our goals. We emphasize student engagement in a challenging curriculum, in meaningful relationships, and in supportive services that guide them to be leaders.
